In July 2024, Hurricane Beryl, a Category 4 storm, struck the Caribbean with unprecedented force, leaving a trail of devastation across Grenada and its neighboring islands. Particularly hard-hit were Carriacou and Petite Martinique, while the northern parts of the Grenadians sustained minimal damage.

Despite the challenges, Grenada’s tourism infrastructure has made an impressive comeback, with many beloved destinations now open and ready to welcome travelers once again. This remarkable turnaround highlights the strength, beauty, and resilience of the island community.

Bequia

A Swift and Impressive Recovery

The impact of Hurricane Beryl was severe, but ongoing restoration efforts have yielded tremendous progress. Popular islands and tourist hotspots have reopened marinas, restaurants, and resorts. Dream Yacht is fully operational with a well-maintained fleet ready for your sailing adventures. Our skilled staff is dedicated to delivering exceptional service, ensuring each charter provides a safe, comfortable, and unforgettable experience for those eager to explore the Grenadines.

What Has Returned Post Hurricane?

Bequia

  • The island has been successfully restored, with no apparent traces of hurricane damage. Both the community and businesses are thriving here, with pristine beaches and vibrant lush forests. Bequia’s charm is untouched, a testament to the island’s dedicated restoration efforts, making it a delightful place to visit once again.

Tobago Cays

  • As always, the Tobago Cays remain a stunning sight. The crystal-clear waters and abundant marine life make them an ideal destination for snorkeling or simply unwinding by the shore. Numerous turtles still frequent this location and the coral reefs are in excellent condition. The famous Romeo’s, where the dishes are exceptionally fresh and flavorful, is as strong as ever. Although Petit Tabac is still in the process of recovery and not yet at its former glory, the recent replanting of palm trees signals a promising return. Meanwhile, Mr. Wonderful continues to delight visitors with his freshly baked bread, local fish, and his renowned banana bread – a true island treat.

Union Island

  • Union Island is the most impacted location along your charter route. Despite the damage, establishments like Carlos Bar are open and welcoming guests. The customs and immigration office are fully functional, and several grocery stores, as well as the popular fresh fish market, are operating. As an excellent alternative to stopping at Union Island, consider visiting Canouan instead.

Canouan

  • Canouan is back to normal post hurricane and ready for tourists. Sandy Lane Marina, is a recently built and fully operational resort in Canouan. It is a great place to unwind after a long day of sailing. The marina boasts first-rate facilities and provides a peaceful, secure docking spot and an incredible restaurant on site. Sandy Lane continues to impress by going above and beyond for visitors, featuring amenities like Randy’s well-stocked supermarket, where you can find nearly everything you need.

Mayreau

  • The iconic Saltwhistle Bay in Mayreau has fully returned to its vibrant atmosphere. A brand-new breakwater has been built to replace the one destroyed by Hurricane Beryl, significantly enhancing the bay’s charm and protection. The beach bars and restaurants bustling once again, including the famous Last Bar Before the Jungle. You will also find the mini-mart fully stocked and open. Visitors can enjoy the lively social scene, stunning scenery, and refreshing island vibes that make this bay a beloved destination in the Grenadines.
