Grenada happy couple relaxing in beach vacation

With a unique combination of French and English culture, exotic flowers and rare fruits, and a rich history of storytelling, Grenada is known as the “Island of Spice”. This is because the country is a leading producer of cinnamon, cloves, ginger, mace, allspice and nutmeg.

Beautiful beaches make up the coastline, including the 1.9 mile-long Grand Anse Beach in St. George Paris, which frequently appears in top 10 lists of the world’s greatest beaches. The marine life is spectacular here and you’ll spot turtles, rays, dolphins and a spectrum of tropical fish during your Grenada yacht charter.

From our Grenada marina you can sail the Grenadines and Union, Mayreau, Tobago Cays, Mustique, Port Elizabeth, Bequia, St. Vincent and St. Lucia.

With many festivals and carnivals onshore, it’s easy to get involved in the local culture, with sailing weeks and regattas too on the water. Whether relaxing on a deserted beach, swimming the corals, hiking rainforests or exploring centuries-old forts, Grenada radiates Caribbean soul.

The friendly team at our base in Port Louis Marina will look after you while you’re on your Grenada sailing vacation, giving valuable local tips and advice.

Things to do in Grenada

Grenada happy couple in beach sailing

Dive or snorkel the underwater sculpture park

Located in the shallow waters off Molinere Point, the Grenada Underwater Sculpture Park is one of the island’s most popular snorkeling sites. The intriguing collection of figures was created by British sculptor Jason deCaires Taylor and serves as an artificial reef.

Tour the Dougaldston Spice Estate

Learn about Grenada’s rich history with a tour of this estate that still processes cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves and more. See how cocoa is manufactured, how spices are processed and pick up some fresh spices to take home with you.

Explore the wonder of St. George’s

One of our favorite things to do in Grenada is strolling through this harbor town, known as one of the most impressive in the Caribbean. The rainbow-colored buildings with red-tiled roofs house a number of unique shops, as well as outstanding restaurants.

Marvel at the Royal Mount Carmel Waterfalls

Consisting of two falls that plunge more than 70 feet to the pools below, some say these are the best falls on the island. Consider hiring a guide to ensure you find them..

Spend time at Grand Anse Beach

The peaceful surroundings and soft white sand are the quintessential Caribbean. Stop by for some lounge time during your Grenada yacht charter, so you can visit the locals and enjoy a refreshing cocktail.

Weather insights

Grenada local food gastronomy

When is the best time to visit Grenada?

The best time to visit Grenada is during the dry season between January and May, when the climate is temperate and sailing conditions are ideal.

The average temperature in Grenada is between 82ºF and 88ºF with little variation year round. Because of Grenada’s location at the southern edge of the hurricane belt, there is a lower risk of storms in this sailing area than in other parts of the Caribbean.

What are the sailing conditions in Grenada?

The sailing conditions for Grenada yacht charters provide excellent opportunities for those who enjoy more lively sailing, with average winds nearly always from the north east at 15 to 25 knots.

For those that enjoy more relaxed sailing, the summer months of July through October tend to offer calmer winds and seas.

Trade winds that cool the island between December and January can sometimes bring higher winds of 25-30 knots for days at a time, known as the ‘Christmas winds’.

Grenada is perfect for experienced and less experienced sailors alike. Grenada sailing is slightly more challenging than the British Virgin Islands, but you can still sail short legs and enjoy some fantastic scenery.

Dock staff can be hailed on VHF channel 14 and carts are available for use by berth holders. If you have a heavy or awkward load, please ask a member of staff to assist you, and please return the carts.

Grenada local bar 7-day itinerary Grenada

Day 1

From our base at Port Louis Marina in St. George's, make an early start for a lively 30nm sail to Tyrell Bay, on the island of Carriacou. Anchor among the local fishing boats and head ashore for a beach stroll followed by dinner and drinks at one of the many quaint restaurants featuring local specialties.

Day 2

Have breakfast at Sandy Island, a beautiful stretch of white sand with no more than half a dozen palm trees. After breakfast and snorkeling, sail over to Union Island and complete check-in formalities for St. Vincent at Clifton Harbor. Continue north for a short distance and drop anchor at the delightful Salt Whistle Bay on Mayreau for the night.

Day 3

Enjoy a great breakfast at the Salt Whistle Bay Resort. Take a short sail to the Tobago Cays and spend the day snorkeling the reef, swimming with turtles and exploring by dinghy, or just stay on board and marvel at the natural beauty of the cays. For dinner, barbecue under the stars.

Day 4

Sail back to Clifton for check out, and then head for the west side of Union Island, where you’ll find Chatham Bay, which is a beautiful deserted bay surrounded by hills. A beach barbecue with a local chef will make the night unforgettable.

Day 5 and 6

Either relax for an extra night at tranquil Petit Martinique or, if it’s the last full day, sail back to St George’s. Make a stopover for snorkeling at the stunning underwater sculpture park in Grand Mal Bay, just minutes north of the capital. Refuel at the Yacht Club and clear customs by the Dream Yacht Charter office by 4pm. Enjoy a last night meal at one of the many local restaurants.

Day 7

Departure day.

Grenada sailing wildlife 10-day itinerary Grenada

Note

A two-week charter will either allow you time to do both, or extend your northern excursion to include a couple of days in St. Lucia at the famous Pitons. Or head to gorgeous Marigot Bay, stopping at Wallilabou in St. Vincent for checking in/out and explore one of the filming sites of Pirates of the Caribbean. Plan for two or three days to explore the southern bays of Grenada as in our 7-day itinerary.

Day 4

From the Tobago Cays, set sail for chic Mustique, an exclusive, star-studded Caribbean retreat. Spend the night here or, after lunch, take a short sail to the anchorage at Landing Bay on deserted Baliceaux to the north.

Day 5

In the morning, sail over to the south-eastern tip of Bequia, and turn into delightfully quiet Friendship Bay for a swim and lunch. In the afternoon, take the passage between Middle Cay and Petit Nevis to the spectacular western tip of Bequia, and anchor in Admiralty Bay. Soak up the friendly, bustling atmosphere ashore and have an excellent meal at one of the many restaurants.

Day 6

After an early morning trip ashore to replenish provisions at the local market, snorkel the reef off Princess Margaret’s beach or dive the wall at Devil’s Table. A short but exhilarating sail across the Bequia Channel to the north will bring you to Young Island Cut or Blue Lagoon for the night.

Day 7

Get ready for a great sail down the eastern side of Bequia to Canouan. Anchor for the night in Grand Bay and enjoy the fabulous beach, crystal blue waters and gleaming white sand. Explore the Tamarind Club ashore and dine in perfect surroundings.

Day 8 and 9

Take another night to revisit the wonders of the Tobago Cays and clear customs at Clifton on Union Island once more.

Day 10

Departure day.

  • We have +60 exciting destinations and we’re a pioneer in finding new sailing grounds.

  • You’ll receive a warm and friendly welcome from our base teams who will share regional tips, recommendations and advice.
  • We’re also a trusted seller of new and used boats and an innovator in charter management options – sailing is our business.

What licenses do I need to hire a yacht and sail myself?

The skipper of a yacht has primary responsibility for the safety of the crew and yacht at all times. Many destinations require just relevant experience demonstrated by a sailing resume.

To charter in the Mediterranean, it is mandatory that you hold a sailing license recognized by the local port authorities for bareboat charters in Italy, Greece, Croatia, Spain, Malta, Montenegro and Turkey. Other destinations that require a license include Madagascar, Seychelles, Thailand, Brazil and Sweden. For Belize, the port authority will issue a certificate of competency and an application is made on arrival.

You must take your proof of competency and original certificate with you on your charter. We advise you to contact our team about your qualifications and destination requirements before booking.

By accepting the yacht contract you are confirming that you and/or members of your crew are capable and competent to sail the yacht in the conditions and cruising area of the charter. We reserve the right not to hand over the yacht if, after inspection, it is the opinion that the charterer is not, or may not be competent to be in charge of the vessel.

What is a skippered yacht charter?

A skippered yacht charter is when you rent one of our boats for you and your guests and a professional skipper sails it for you. No sailing experience is needed.

You will need to choose a yacht with a cabin for your skipper to sleep in as they are responsible for your yacht for the duration of your charter. We will find the skipper for you once you have found your perfect destination and yacht.

You will need to pay for your skipper’s food. You can invite the skipper to dine with you on board or out at a local restaurant.

What is the difference between crewed and by the cabin charters?

Our by the cabin charter charters offer exciting destination tours on a set itinerary crafted by our destination experts. You can book a double cabin and private bathroom and will share the boat with other guests who have booked the other available cabins. You will be looked after by a professional skipper and hostess with itineraries ranging from three to 11 nights. There is a set menu and included meals and drinks vary depending on location.

Can you tell me about your yachts?

Our super premier yachts are less than 12 months old from their first charter date, while premier yachts are less than three years old from their first charter date. Our yachts are well maintained and undergo regular, scheduled technical inspection.

In case of emergency, you can rely on our hotline, at any time, seven days a week. If you experience a technical failure affecting major and important parts of the yacht, we will repair the failure within four hours of receiving your call during working hours (8am to 5pm). If you lose more than four hours (during working hours), we will compensate you for one full day. If the repair takes more than one day, we will provide you with a similar boat or compensate you on a pro-rata basis. If restrictions to this guarantee apply in specific areas, this will be detailed during the charter check-in at the base.

Do I need insurance?

We highly recommend you arrange travel insurance in case you need to cancel for an unexpected reason to cover non-refundable deposits. Please make sure you have personal travel insurance that covers sailing.

We will insure the vessel throughout the charter with first-class insurers against all risks, to provide permission to charter as under contract terms and to cover third-party liability.

The following options are available in limited locations:

  • Security Deposit: This varies on the size of the boat and when the boat is returned without damage it is refunded.
  • Damage Waiver: The charterer agrees to pay a non-refundable damage waiver at the time of booking, as well as a reduced damage deposit on embarkation that is refundable upon completion of the charter should no damage occur.
