Spotlight Croatia: Sibenik, Trogir, and Dubrovnik

Mediterranean

Croatia’s has exploded as a popular sailing destination in recent years and for a good reason!  Croatia has more than 1,200 islands off the coast to explore. The first thing that will strike you about the Adriatic Sea is the clarity of the water and the vivid shade of azure blue.  The intricate coastline and its islands are made up of sheer cliffs, sandy beaches, with medieval towns, and fortress walls around every bend.

Not sure where to sail from? Dream Yacht Charter currently has over 150 boats in Croatia from three bases.

Here a few of the highlights and recommendations.

Trogir

The waters near the city of Split are the most popular cruising ground in Croatia and where you will find the most yachts based. If this is your first charter in Croatia, we recommend starting from our Trogir base. Fly into the Split Airport and our base is only a 10-minute drive away. Trogir and it’s beautiful palm tree lined waterfront make it a beautiful starting point for any charter. The city of Split, the second largest city in Croatia, is right nearby and is known for its beautiful beaches and the Diocletian’s Palace.  A must-see destination is the island of Hvar which has an impressive fortress on top of the mountain, swanky restaurants, and legendary beach bars and clubs. The island of Biševo near Vis offers a stunning blue cave you can experience if you arrive when the sun is directly overhead.

Dubrovnik

Dubrovnik has been dubbed the most prominent tourist destinations in the Mediterranean, and the sense of awe never fails to descend when you set eyes on the beauty of the old town. You’ll arrive to see a large medieval wall encasing a city with well-preserved marble streets and ancient architecture all around. This area is also known as a sailing hot spot with islands rich in vineyards, olive groves, and small villages. In recent years, Dubrovnik has had Game of Throne fans flocking to the area to see where Kings Landing was filmed.

Sibenik

Šibenik is a great access point for Krka National Park and the Kornati Islands. Krka National Park has seven amazing waterfalls accessible by sailing up river and anchoring a short walk from the falls. Like most of Croatia, the coast is dotted with fortresses and villages. A popular destination is the town of Primosten which is known for its picturesque architectural features and vineyards. If you are looking to get away from it all, we highly suggest visiting Kornati National Park with it’s 140 uninhabited islands. The park is considered a “nautical paradise” and features an abundance of reefs and inlets to explore the calming waters

When to go:

Croatia is further north than many other Mediterranean sailing destinations, so stick to the peak of summer. We recommend the month of June, July, August, or September.

All charters are on a Saturday to Saturday schedule, and one-way charters between our bases are available if you book far in advance.

What to charter:

Like most of the Mediterranean, it’s predominantly monohulls sailing in Croatia, but we have about over 30 catamarans to choose from at our bases as well.
