Discover the best beaches and diving in Greece

Greece Mediterranean

What better way to spend a vacation than by basking in the beautiful Mediterranean climate while hopping between thousands of enchanting Greek islands in the Ionian and Aegean Seas?

Operating from eight bases in Greece, spanning five archipelagos, it’s time to discover the place where civilization began!

With over 16,000 km of coastline and many islands to explore, it would take more than a year to sail around the archipelagos – but even on a charter, you’ll have plenty of time to discover some of the very best beaches in Greece. Read on to find our top picks below…

Explore expansive reefs in Paleokastritsa

If you’re a diving enthusiast, then head over to Corfu on your yacht charter – specifically to Paleokastritsa, on the north of the island.

The coastline here is made up of an abundance of reefs and rocks, which are just waiting to be discovered. Kolovri Beach is a particularly popular spot for diving, due to the underwater archway and wide expanse of reefs measuring up to an impressive 40 meters.

Head to the soft sands and glimmering turquoise waters of Agios Spyridon when you want to relax and top up your tan. It’s the ideal place for ultimate relaxation!

Discover famous shipwrecks on Kea Island

Kea Island is the top spot for scuba diving in Greece, with plenty of shipwrecks to discover. In fact, its seabed is home to one of the world’s most famous wrecks, the sister ship of the Titanic, the HMHS Britannic. If you do decide to dive this wreck, then please be careful as the complexity of it makes it suitable for advanced divers only.

When you’ve done diving, take the time to sample several of the nearby beaches. Koundourous and Korissia beach are amongst some of the best beaches in Greece – although there tend to be more crowds because of this.

If you’re looking for a secluded beach, then head to sandy Orkos on the east of Kea, or the calm waters of pebble beach Kambi.

Dive the impressive Elephant’s Cave in Crete

No dive in Greece is complete without a trip to Elephant’s Cave – so-called due to the discovery of some unknown elephant species back in 2000.

The cave is at 10 meters below sea level and to enter it, you’ll need to swim down a tunnel for 40 meters.

It’s most definitely worth the effort though, when you get to discover the stunning white and red stalactites and stalagmites. The cave is only partially filled with water, with the air breathable, so you can take off your mask if you’d prefer to.

Visit the diverse marine life of Mykonos

Mykonos may be well-known for its stylish resorts, chic shops and sophisticated dining, but what you perhaps didn’t know, is that it’s also home to some of the best diving in Greece.

The 62-meter ship Anna II is sunk to the south of Mykonos by Lia Beach, attracting keen divers every year. The boat is still in excellent condition and you can even enter a small section of it. The surrounding area is great for exploring too, with its colorful sponges and diverse marine life.

When you’ve finished diving, relax on the golden sands of the secluded Lia Beach, or stop for a bite to eat at one of the nearby restaurants.

Play with the loggerhead turtles in Marathonisi

Zakynthos is famed for its loggerhead turtles and now you can go diving with them off the coast of the uninhabited island of Marathonisi.

Watch the loggerhead turtles play in their natural habitat and maybe you’ll even catch a glimpse of flying fish, parrotfish and eels too.

If it’s beautiful beaches you’re after, then sail over to Kalamaki on the south coast of Zante. It’s protected by Greek legislation as it’s one of the beaches where the loggerhead turtles lay their eggs. The beach is wide and sandy, with some of the clearest, most shallow waters you’ll lay your eyes on.

When you’re in Zante, you can volunteer to help the endangered sea turtles, with more information here.
