With its extensive system of canals, Fort Lauderdale is sometimes called the Venice of America.
Seminole Indians were the region’s previous inhabitants. However, the city is named for Major William Lauderdale who, during the Second Seminole War, led a group of Tennessee Volunteers into the area and built the New River Fort where the modern city is located.
Fort Lauderdale is a sailing Mecca, making it an ideal location for Dream Yacht Charter’s newest base on the East Coast, with the exciting sights and sounds of South Beach just a day’s sail away. Stretching beyond that is the natural beauty of the famous Florida Keys and Key West.
Dream Yacht Charter’s South Florida cruising area and destinations include Miami, Biscayne Bay, Key Largo, Islamorada, Marathon and Key West. You can even sail as far as Fort Jefferson in the Dry Tortugas.
We also have sailing itineraries heading east to The Bahamas, where there are 700 islands and 2,400 cays just waiting to be explored—by you.
Dream Yacht Charter’s Bahamian base is on Great Abaco Island at Marsh Harbor and serves as our gateway to the stellar sailing grounds the islands offer.

Our day courses are designed for sailors who want to advance incrementally to improve their skills but don’t have the time for a full 5- or 8-day voyage. These out-and-back classes feature 8 hours of instruction, accommodations on one of our well-equipped luxury sailing yachts, meals, snacks, water and soft drinks, linens, towels, and all training equipment. Sleeping aboard can be arranged.
Enjoy an educational vacation! After settling in and meeting for our orientation and safety briefing on the first day, we cast off from the dock and island hop for 5 or 8 days to learn sailing, immersing you in the sailing lifestyle. We return to our homeport on the 5th (or 8th) and final afternoon. A typical day aboard flows from good coffee and a freshly prepared breakfast. After some planning, we get underway to enjoy a day’s sailing to our next island while we work through our educational objectives. Once at our next destination and after the boat is safely anchored or moored, we will have time to enjoy the surroundings, swim, snorkel, go for a hike or paddle board, and spend some time reviewing our course material. Dinner is normally made on board and enjoyed in the cockpit with good company and the surrounding seascape as a backdrop. We offer beginner-to-advanced courses in the 5- and 8-day formats.
Q. Will we need to bring any linens or towels? A. No, your linens and towels are provided.
