Meet the Crew of Our All-inclusive Crewed Catamaran Muse

Chartering Crewed

MUSE is a Sunreef 70 all-inclusive crewed catamaran with five double cabins that can accommodate 10 passengers sailing the Caribbean until the end of April. She and her crew will then head to the Mediterranean and sail there until the end of September before heading back to the Caribbean for the November to June 2019 season.

Her captain, Serge Milliard, began sailing in Brittany, France, on his family’s boat. He has been a professional skipper for 25 years and sailed a range of yachts in the Caribbean, Mediterranean and Polynesia. He holds a level 2 in diving and loves water sports, from paddleboarding to water skiing. We caught up with Serge to find out more about MUSE, her crew and what they love about sailing…

Get to know MUSE’s crew
My cook Edward Bennett, known as Eddie, comes from New Zealand. He’s been part of the crew for four years and everyone leaves the boat complimenting him and his work. Sylvie is my stewardess and has just joined our team, but we worked together on another big catamaran in the Mediterranean, Caribbean and also during an Atlantic crossing. Be careful, her smile and her joie de vivre are contagious!

From New Zealand to Ecuador
Eddie grew up and studied on the waterfront in New Zealand, which inspired him to combine his two passions, cooking and the sea. He trained at Auckland Hospitality School for chefs and after working in several local restaurants, he moved to France and worked in the yachting industry. He loves French, Italian, Caribbean and Asian cuisine.

Sylvie trained as an office administrator before managing her own tropical flower plantation in Ecuador. Her love of traveling brought her to restaurants and then to the marine business. Since then she’s become a captain.

The captain’s favorite Caribbean destination
I love Barbuda – the island is very flat, which allows the wind to blow constantly. Also, it’s protected from the swell and the waves but there is enough breeze to cool the boat. You can enjoy 20km of pristine beach with almost nobody around, so for all kinds of water sports, this place is a dream.

The beauty of the British Virgin Islands
Right now, we’re in the BVIs and despite the recovery efforts going on after hurricane Irma, they are still gorgeous and have fewer boats than usual. Distances between the interesting anchorages are very small and almost always protected, which gives a smooth sail.

My top places in the BVIs are:

  1. The Baths in Virgin Gorda for the trail between the rocks and the natural, private swimming pools
  2. The Indians for the wonderful snorkeling, plenty of black durgeon, turtles, a tunnel and colorful sponge, worms and anemone
  3. The white sand beach, turquoise sea and the atmosphere in the bars at Jost Van Dyke

Taking a break from life’s distractions
MUSE is probably the most comfortable and luxurious boat I’ve ever been on. You really feel safe when traveling onboard and she’s so spacious that we can have all the toys needed to please our guests.

When guests arrive on a crewed yacht, even if they know how to sail, trust us to give them a perfect vacation. Having a professional crew makes them feel free from any work, any responsibility and gives them the opportunity to learn if they want to. They can really disconnect from their lives, take a real break and fully immerse themselves in the beauty of their natural surroundings. Our goal is to know people have had a really good time.

The most rewarding part of crewed sailing
I’ve sailed with guests who’ve had bad experiences at sea and left confident and wanting to sail more after being with us. I’ve also helped people who are afraid of water to succeed at and enjoy snorkeling. These are some very rewarding moments and our goal is to make sure people leave the boat having had a great time.
